How Can Dress Up Games Benefit the Development of Your Kid

One of the most favourite part of the year for kids is Halloween or mostly known as All Hallow's Eve in Australia. Although there are some who consider Halloween as an American thing, a great number of Aussies love to celebrate this day with their friends, colleagues, and family, dressed up in something interesting while drinking and having fun. However, it has been proven that children are especially thrilled by the idea of wearing childrens costumes and scarring their fellows and parents with their scary vampire and dragon-like costume choices. However, this desire for wearing a costume doesn't end on this day. “Unfortunately”, the number of children who want to wear their Halloween childrens costumes on a daily basis is huge, especially when they are related to some superheroes, princesses, doctors, construction workers, etc. The list of childrens costumes is huge and children seem to enjoy wearing them, especially when it comes to role-playing.

While it can be quite annoying dealing with a toddler who wants to be dressed in childrens costumes each and every single day, this can be really helpful for them. How you may ask?! Well, according to doctors, when a child wears a costume (no matter the type or the look), his brain is developing in more ways. Put in other words, children can benefit physically, cognitively, socially and emotionally from a dress-play, so parents should do everything in their power to overcome their own frustration and stress. They should let their children express themselves through this play, as this can help them a lot throughout their life.

Brain Boosting

According to lots of studies, it has been proven that dress-up encourages a child to use his brain and memory in order to remember a specific sentence or act of his favourite character. For example, little girls love watching princess and fairy cartoons, so such childrens costumes will encourage them to behave the same way as the princess or the fairy. Boys, on the other hand, are in love with superpowers fights and cars, so being in the position to wear such costume every day would be more than amazing. Imitating them and recalling on the details they've seen on the TV will help them boost their brain and memory which can additionally improve their thinking abilities. Amazing, right?!

Vocabulary Improvement

A dress-up play can help children to improve their vocabulary as they'll need to use the same words as their favourite princess/superhero/fairy/hobbit, etc. But not only using them, they'll need to understand their meaning which means that using them in the place/form would be easier. Thanks to this, children may start using them in real life conversations from which parents would be really proud.

Empathy

When children are engaged in role-playing, they are allowed to see the world through the eyes of the other person. For example, when they are pretending to be a doctor or a parent, they are able to see the love and attention parents and doctors put in order to help the other person while being able to feel the pain of the other. Amazing, right?! That's why doctors encourage and support the idea of dress-up and role playing. Through these games, children can easily learn about empathy which is one of the greatest things that could happen to someone.

Emotional Development

There comes a time in life when children have to pass the phase of confronting with their own fears. Whether it is a fear from spiders, flys, motors, or fire, through pretend play they can overcome these fears really fast. For example, superheroes can protect the world from bad people while firefighters can tackle the fire and rescue people and animals from some really dangerous situations. By allowing children to dress-play, parents can help them develop emotionally while overcoming their fears. That way, they will know that there is a solution for every situation, so the fear they feel from a particular thing will be gone in no time.

Imagination Improvement

Last but not least, through role play children can improve their imagination. They not only try to remember the lines of their favourite cartoon characters, but they also add up to this to make things more fun and dramatic. According to doctors, imaginative play in early childhood is the key to creative thinking during the adult years, so parents should be supportive when it comes to role and dress-up play. At the ends, it's better to have your children playing than sitting on the cellphone or tablet for hours, not having an actual conversation with someone. This can lead to a lot of problems, that today's parents are already facing. Today's children generations are modern, addicted to modern technology, which is why parents should encourage them to play in real life with real friends, not imaginative.
